Terms and Conditions

HomeHero Handyman Services LLC (“HomeHero,” “we,” “us,” or “our”), located in Gurnee, IL, provides handyman services subject to the following Terms and Conditions (“Terms”). By engaging our services, you (“Customer,” “you”) agree to be bound by these Terms. For inquiries, contact us at (847) 996-0096 or thehandyhomehero.com. These Terms comply with the Illinois Home Repair and Remodeling Act (815 ILCS 513) and other applicable laws.

1. Services and Pricing

1.1. Scope of Services: HomeHero offers handyman services, including but not limited to assembly, interior/exterior maintenance, painting, and smart home installations, as detailed on thehandyhomehero.com. Services are limited to minor repairs and installations not requiring licensed professionals (e.g., new electrical wiring or major plumbing, per 225 ILCS 317).

1.2. Pricing: Prices are estimates and subject to change based on job complexity, materials, or site conditions. Final costs are provided via free quotes after photo submissions or on-site assessments. Bundled services (e.g., drywall repair + painting) receive a 10–15% discount. All prices are in USD.

1.3. Custom Projects: Custom or complex projects (e.g., custom carpentry, large-scale repairs) require tailored quotes based on labor, materials, and time. HomeHero reserves the right to decline projects outside our scope or expertise.

2. Materials

2.1. Customer-Supplied Materials: Customers must supply specific materials (e.g., paint, fixtures, smart devices, tiles, flooring) unless otherwise agreed. HomeHero is not liable for defects, delays, or damages caused by customer-supplied materials.

2.2. HomeHero-Supplied Materials: Minor materials (e.g., screws, spackle, tape) are included in pricing. Other materials supplied by HomeHero are quoted at cost plus a 20% markup. Customers must approve material costs before work begins.

3. Payment and Billing

3.1. Payment Terms: Payment is due in full upon job completion via credit card, check, or digital platforms (e.g., Venmo, PayPal). A 2% late fee applies to payments overdue by 7 days. HomeHero may suspend services or pursue legal remedies for non-payment, per Illinois law (815 ILCS 513/20).

3.2. Add-Ons: Additional services (e.g., $50 material pickup, $25–$150 debris disposal, $75 furniture moving) are quoted upfront and added to the final invoice. No work proceeds without customer approval.

4. Scheduling and Availability

4.1. Booking: Schedule appointments via thehandyhomehero.com or (847) 996-0096, subject to availability. Some services (e.g., drywall repair requiring curing) may necessitate multiple visits, included in the quoted price.

4.2. Warranty Priority System: Warranty claims accompanied by additional paid services (e.g., $150 painting, $80 gutter cleaning) receive priority scheduling within one week. Standalone warranty claims are scheduled within 2–3 weeks. HomeHero reserves the right to adjust scheduling based on operational needs.

4.3. Cancellations: Customers must cancel or reschedule at least 24 hours in advance, or a $50 fee may apply, covering administrative and travel costs. HomeHero may cancel or reschedule due to unforeseen circumstances (e.g., weather, staffing) without liability, providing reasonable notice.

5. Warranty

5.1. Workmanship Warranty: HomeHero provides a one-year warranty on labor, effective from job completion, covering defects in workmanship (e.g., improper installation). Claims must be submitted within 30 days of issue discovery via (847) 996-0096 or thehandyhomehero.com, with photos and job details.

5.2. Exclusions: The warranty excludes defects or damages due to customer-supplied materials, misuse, normal wear and tear, environmental factors (e.g., Gurnee weather conditions), or third-party actions. Material warranties are limited to manufacturer terms.

5.3. Claim Process: HomeHero will inspect claims within a reasonable timeframe. If valid, we will repair or redo the labor at no cost. If the issue is non-warranty (e.g., material defect), a $50 diagnostic fee applies, refundable if applied to new paid services. HomeHero’s liability is limited to the original service cost.

6. Legal Compliance

6.1. Licensing: Per Illinois law (225 ILCS 317, 410 ILCS 705), HomeHero does not perform new electrical wiring, major plumbing, or other work requiring licensed professionals. We provide referrals to licensed electricians or plumbers as needed.

6.2. Permits: Customers are responsible for obtaining necessary permits (e.g., Lake County building permits, per Lake County Code of Ordinances, Title 15). HomeHero will assist with permit information but is not liable for non-compliance.

6.3. Consumer Rights: Per the Illinois Home Repair and Remodeling Act (815 ILCS 513), customers receive a written quote and may request a “Consumer Rights” brochure. HomeHero complies with all disclosure requirements.

7. Liability and Safety

7.1. Limitation of Liability: HomeHero’s liability is limited to the cost of services provided. We are not liable for consequential, incidental, or indirect damages (e.g., property damage from customer-supplied materials) or issues arising from non-removed holiday decorations (e.g., Christmas lights).

7.2. Insurance: HomeHero is fully insured for general liability and worker’s compensation, protecting customers and employees during service performance.

7.3. Safety: Technicians use safe, non-damaging methods (e.g., drop cloths, secure mounting). Customers must ensure safe access to work areas, free of hazards (e.g., pets, clutter).

8. Dispute Resolution

8.1. Resolution Process: Disputes must be reported within 7 days of service completion via (847) 996-0096 or thehandyhomehero.com. HomeHero will attempt to resolve issues amicably within 30 days.

8.2. Governing Law: These Terms are governed by Illinois law. Disputes not resolved informally shall be addressed in Lake County, IL courts, per 735 ILCS 5.

8.3. Force Majeure: HomeHero is not liable for delays or non-performance due to events beyond our control (e.g., severe weather, supply shortages).

9. Modifications and Contact

9.1. Changes: HomeHero may update these Terms at any time, with changes posted on thehandyhomehero.com. Continued use of services constitutes acceptance of updated Terms.

HOW SOON CAN I EXPECT HOMEHERO TO BEGIN WORKING?

Once you’ve scheduled your initial consultation, you can expect to see one of our service pros within 24 hours. The next timeline depends on how quickly we confirm the service agreement. Once the service agreement is finalized, we aim to schedule jobs to begin within 1 week.

DO I NEED TO PROVIDE TOOLS OR MATERIALS?

No. Absolutely no need for you to provide anything. Our service pros will arrive on schedule with all of the tools and materials necessary to complete the job. You may provide specific materials or products to be installed if you wish.

DO I NEED TO BE THERE FOR THE WORK TO BE PERFORMED?

It is not necessary, but we prefer to have a designated adult onsite for at least the initial meeting to review the scope of the job, expectations, and payment. If you are unable to be home, you may arrange for us to gain access to your property and to lock it after we leave. If you are out-of-state, we can email you pictures of the finished job, along with the invoice. We do ask that payment is made upon completion. As always, we will treat your home with the utmost respect and care.

WHO IS HOMEHERO, AND WHO WILL SHOW UP TO MY HOUSE?

We are a licensed & insured general contracting & handyman business that provides professional repair, remodel, and construction services. A HomeHero service pro will arrive at your home in a branded shirt with his own tools. We thoroughly screen each of our  handymen and contractors to ensure you can trust the person entering your home. Additionally, all of our service pros are well as skilled and experienced for all of your home projects. We will arrive on time and ready to work!

HOW DO I PAY, AND DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT?

HomeHero accepts various payment methods for our services, including cash, credit/debit cards, checks (for existing customers), Venmo, Zelle and online payments. We aim to make the payment process as convenient as possible for our customers.

We only require a deposit for costly materials (especial orders for doors, windows, flooring, paint, and others), if the cost is more than $500.

Any refunds after materials have been purchased will require a 10% return fee, depending on the supply company policies.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A CONTRACTOR AND A HANDYMAN?

A handyman is perfect for small to medium-sized tasks like repairs and maintenance. For large, complex projects requiring specialized skills and permits, a licensed contractor will be needed.

WHAT TYPE OF SERVICES REQUIRE A PERMIT?

Building permits are required for most home improvement projects except for those that are purely cosmetic such as painting and flooring. Generally, structural work to your property requires a permit. This includes decks, patios, balconies, and roofing. Additionally, electrical work, rewiring, and plumbing may necessitate a permit. HomeHero can help you with determining which projects require a permit and the process to obtain one.
